Happy Friday! I am so happy today because I am able to share my new blog with you all! I have been working with Smash Creative for the past few months and love what we have put together. There are a few new features that I know you will love and I can’t wait to share more content with you guys.
Last week it snowed, not only in the mountains but at our house. We woke up and could barely see the grass. We had enough snow that the boys put on their snow clothes and played outside, they even made a couple of snow angels. I think I was the only one in the house not thrilled by the glittering white substance that graced our yard. I only felt that way because it was still early October, winter was here and I didn’t know where fall had gone. I thought for sure shorts season was over. Luckily, fall is back and we have had a beautiful couple of days!
I was able to wear shorts yesterday (the outfit I wore is on sale!) and this is today’s look. After looking at the forecast for the next 10 days I’m pretty confident it’s time to wrap up shorts season for fall in SLC. It really is so easy to swap one item of an existing outfit and make it appropriate for a new season. This look will soon be transformed for cooler weather with jeans and boots.

The Breakdown ||
I honestly never considered my style to be sporty until one of my followers mentioned it after I asked to describe my style. Now I see it often in my outfits and love my sporty side. I still love to look pulled together and always make sure my sporty outfits are chic. The weather it pretty cool where I’m living but the sunny days are hot so a jacket is a must right now. Fall fashion always seems more structured to me which is why I added this oversized blazer.
Before I knew where my husband was going to be traded I waited to clean out my closet. Many items I thought if we go to Utah I’ll keep, if we go to Los Angeles I’ll keep. The main thing that I did decide to keep because I knew we were headed to Utah were my Adidas hiking shoes that I got probably more than 5 years ago. I actually thought they were running shoes when I got them but they have a lot of tread on the bottoms and are meant for hiking! They are my go to shoes to wear when it’s warm.
The other things I decided to keep were my ski jacket, snow pants and all my other big winter coats. I didn’t have too many but I knew I would need them. One coat includes a North Face black puffer jacket that my friend found at a concert hall he used to work at! It even has a cigarette burn in the arm. Why I still own this coat is beyond me- actually, it’s because it’s a perfectly good coat that does its job. I finally replaced it with this black puffer jacket.
The fundamentals of my style are the same. I am a jeans and top girl through and through. Jeans and a sweater in the winter, jeans and a t-shirt in the spring and fall and jeans shorts and a top in the summer. I rarely wear skirts and usually wear dresses only on special occasions. I am trying to wear dresses and skirts more and moving to Utah will help that a little because I am all about hiking boots! I especially love how they look with a sweater dress or in my case a sweatshirt dress.

I am pretty excited to be starting this monthly post of rounding up my game day outfits. Sharing the details of my game day outfits is how I started blogging in the first place. Before kids I would very strategically plan my outfits, I paid attention to the day of the week, the opposing team, the season, the weather and I’m sure some other details here and there. Last fall I went a little further in detail explaining how I pick my game day outfits, you can read that here. I will have to write another post for attending games with the Utah Jazz since the weather is obviously very different plus our parking situation is different! Stay tuned for that.
Before I share all the details let me warn you a lot of things I wear are from years past. If it is no longer available I will do my best to find the most similar option and if it is a designer piece I will try and find a look for less!
You will notice I don’t usually wear Jazz apparel to the games but did you know American Eagle has some very cute Utah Jazz clothing items and so does Old Navy (my boys have this shirt)!? Another crazy one that I would be all over if we were in Memphis is this Zadig&Voltair tank! I have been a fan of Zadig&Voltaire for quite some time and now they have come out with an NBA line, just waiting for a Jazz tank!

This is the perfect time to stock up on sweaters, jackets, boots, and pants for the winter. There were 63 pages of items to browse through and I looked at everyone and picked my favorite things. I made sure to keep all the items under $500. I was hoping to keep it all under $300 but there were a few things that were too good not to share! Jackets & Coats // I need some new coats now that I am living in Utah. Growing up in Ohio I am used to the cold and snow but spending the last 10 winters in Memphis I only have a few coats and I’m afraid they won’t get me through the winter.
Sweaters // Love a good chunky sweater in the winter but what I am really loving right now is chunky cardigans!
Dresses & Jumpsuits // Dresses for the holidays, dresses for summer and dresses just because. I also added a few skirts that are really cool.
Jeans & Pants // Can’t go wrong with a classic skinny jean but I am loving the straight-leg trend and prefer my rise to be a high-waisted.
Shoes // Tis the season for booties! Cowboy boots are in but that isn’t really my style but I found a couple of pairs of booties that have a slight western vibe. There are also some really great pumps and mules along with a couple of sneakers I love.
Bags // So many bags to choose from. I love a crossbody bag because of the convenience but I am also loving the mini bags. There is this great neon bag I wore to NYFW that is marked down too.
Best of Animal Prints // You may be getting a litte tired of cheetah print since it is everywhere but animal prints are still going strong. I’m loving the croc look, zebra and snake!
Casual // Nothing like a cozy pair of sweats when it’s cold outside. I also love a good sweatshirt, they are always comfortable and easy to wash!
What’s In My Cart // I added more than I need to my cart but I assume a few things won’t fit and will be returned.
People love to shop on Amazon, not only for every day essentials but clothes too! I just got on to the Amazon trend and will order the random things I need that I can’t find online anywhere else. We have Amazon Prime (not sure when or who set us up for that because I don’t recall doing it but I am glad we have it) so I need to use Amazon more often. Using Amazon for buying clothes is a stretch or was a stretch. Shopbop recently started selling through Amazon which is one of my favorite online retailers which definitely peaked my interest.
Another really fun thing I am loving is Amazon The Drop. Influencers create a capsule collection and it is available for 30 hours because the fabric is limited! Once the orders are placed, the items go into production, the items are like limited edition pieces. One of my favorite influencers Paola Alberdi of Blank Itinerary was the first Amazon The Drop collection to launch and I got this beautiful oversized long button down shirt. You can actually still shop some of the items from The Drop.
I need to get better at shopping on Amazon and sharing some good finds for you guys!

Loeffler Randall is one of my favorite brands (I wore this bag here and another bag here and here– they even have shoes). It is somewhere in the middle between designer and affordable. I’d call the items an affordable splurge! I talked about them in my Top 6 Bags Under $350 post.
I really love this outfit. I feel like it is so chic. This is the perfect outfit to wear to something when you aren’t quite sure what the dress code is. The shoe has a heel but since it is chunky it doesn’t feel as dressy. I am wearing jeans but since they are a dark gray they don’t seem too casual. The top is just perfect, you could easily were it with black skinny pants heels, as well as boyfriend jeand and sneakers. I chose this bag to add some more texture. I think it’s 100% ok to mix prints, even animal prints (read more here)!
Mixing prints can be scary and a lot of people don’t know how to do it. I always love to buy a piece of clothing that has different patterns in it because all the work is done. You can mix different size stripes or polka dots, you can mix different animal prints or stripes with animal prints. So many different combinations. Some can go wrong and some can look very fashionable.
A few things to consider:
Color // If your prints are in the same color family it is much easier to mix them. I have these snake print booties that are in the gray family and since the color is neutral I can pair them with a leopard sweater or cheetah belt, event pinstriped pants! In these photos, I paired snake print boots with a tie-dye skirt. It as an easy choice because the shoes and skirt are in the same color family.
Number // Do not mix more than one print. Stick to two different prints and if the two prints happen to be on clothing then make sure your accessories are clean and simple.
Location // The further apart your prints are the easier you can pair them together. Leopard print booties with a snake print blazer, very chic. Those are most likely not going to be in the same color palette but since they are far away from one another it’s ok.
I typically try on all my outfits before I shoot them. Not everything looks as good on as it does layed out. With this outfit, Initially I had my eye on this blue tie-dye midi skirt (which also comes in a beautiful pink and cream) but I knew I wouldn’t get my cost per wear out of it. When I found this navy version at a much better price I knew I should get it!
It’s that time of year when influencers go crazy announcing items on sale. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale really is a great sale and the perfect time to buy fall items that you need. If you are in need for a bootie, a jacket, a good pair of jeans, this is the perfect time for that. It’s also a great time to stock up on basics or larger purchases you have been wanting like home accessories and luggage Something you want to be careful about is buying only because it’s on sale. I admit I have done that in the past and one of the items I never even wore! It kills me. I got sucked in because items were selling out so fast and I wanted to get it before my whole wish list was all gone.
I’m in the middle of a move. I am doing some major cleaning out and I am trying to get rid of stuff in my closet so I don’t really want to add more stuff. I know fall will come and I will wish I had a new sweater, updated jeans and new shoes so tomorrow I will do a little bit of shopping but I’m going to be very pracitcal. Speaking of tomorrow, tomorrow the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is open up to the public! Earlier this week only those who were cardholders had early access to the sale. Some things are picked over and sold out but there will be so many returns made there is a very good chance what you want will be back in stock at some point before the sale is over.

A few things I want to say about these items. I only have my eye on boy things because that’s all I have but this headband popped up and if I had a girl I would own ever color of this for her! Since I don’t, I’ll just have to buy one for my niece. I also want to tell you guys about this stroller, it’s expensive and it is really nice. When it comes to strollers you really do get what you pay for. I actually purchased the Thule double stroller last year during the anniversary sale becuaes it was such a good deal. When you are going to be running and pushing your kids you want the stroller to be as light as possible and to maneuver well. This is a great deal! These Nike sneakers are so easy to put on. Myles can sometimes do it on his own which is very helpful!
When I got out of my car to meet my photographer to shoot this outfit she kept complimenting me on how cute I looked and how much she loved my outfit. It was a totally confidence booster and I was ready to strut and smile and show off my outfit. Then she made a comment “you look like a blogger!”. Was it my Gucci bag, the high waisted jeans, the tied top, the statement earrings, I’ll never know. It was in a positive way and I said thank you but it got me thinking. What does a “blogger” look like. There are definitely certain things I think bloggers and influencers wear that most other do not, as well as a certain look they have. Bloggers in Memphis look one way, bloggers in Columbus and LA and New York all look a certain way too.
What I really want to know is if you think bloggers and influencers have a specific look. A few things that come to mind that I personally feel are very “blogger-ish” are… Gucci belts, Cult Gaia bags (or the knock off version), tiered tassel earrings (last year that is, those seem to have died down a bit and this style has picked up), some type of braided pigtail, bandanas tied around like a headband with the ties out (I love using bandanas to hold back my baby hairs, I choose to tuck in the ends so it looks more like a turban headband). I’m sure by the time I end this post I will think of a handful of others. Oh, another is heart shaped sunglasses, which can run over $400 for the Saint Laurent version or under $10…for a trend like this, I’d stick to the $10 but then again if you love hearts you’ll be able to see out of the more expensive version much better.
I love my job, I love the community I am a part of and I love everyones unique style and sense of fashion. Lately I have been wondering if bloggers have a certain look or not and I’d love to know what you think!
Shopping at American Eagle is a hit or miss for me. I think they have really cute things but are aimed for a younger age group than I fall into which is why it is sometimes a miss for me, except for this top. I love how it’s slightly cropped but with the right high waisted jeans you won’t have to bare any skin. I chose not to wear a bra but bralette would look cute also. Luckily I had a pair of jeans with the perfect high waist for this top. I do really love this outfit and look forward to wearing it again!
Looking chic during the freezing winter months can be a difficult task. Temperatures can dip below freezing, snow can be inches deep and slush and rain can ruin your chic boots. All of those factors are great reasons to stay indoors but who can really spend all day cooped up inside, there are jobs to go to, grociers to buy and things to do and fresh air for the soul. Fortuneately for me I live in Memphis where we have mild winters, it occasionaly snows or even worse we will have freezing rain but I have spent most of my life in Ohio where single digit temperatures and inches of snow are normal. I put together a few different catagories of winter boots that are both chic and practical. There is still a good amount of winter left so scroll on down so you can be prepared for the unexpected weather.
Rugged Lace-Up Boots
This style is a first for me. I wasn’t sure when I would need this style but throughout the winter I have wished I had this style in my closet multiple times. This style boot is perfect for when the weather is freezing but the conditions don’t allow you to where a dressed up boot. There is great traction on these boots helping you walk on slippery surfaces. You can also get options with fur for extra warmth or colorful laces for a pop of fun.
High snow boots aren’t always the more comfortable and they take up a lot of space. These waterproof booties are the perfect cold wet weather shoe for lots of walking around and can easily be packed in your suitcase.
Shearling Lined Boots
There is nothing like slipping your foot into a soft shearling lined boot on a cold and blustery day. These boots are not the best for rain or to be worn in the snow. I wore mine as snow boots in college and they were never quite the same after that but are perfect to brave the cold. These boots can come in all sorts of colors and with cute button details.
Full On Snow Boots
I like my snow boots to be high because it is no fun having your snow fall into your boots mid play. These shoes also need to be water proof, have good traction and keep your feet warm.
Now that I finally caved in and bought a pair of rugged lace-up booties my winter outfits have become much more chic. I love that I can wear a regular outfit but when I’ll be doing a lot of walking and still want my feet to be warm I can add this chic boot to my outift. My sweater and scarf were both Christmas gifts and my faux leather leggings edge of fashion to my outfit.
It’s that time of month again. Time to share one fab clothing item styled three different ways. Since December is filled with holiday events I decided to go with the fesitve leopard tulle skirt. It is extrememly affordable and can be worn so many different ways, I almost did 5 different styles!
When teh party invitations says festive I make sure to wear something that says sparkle! It could be sequins, glitter or rhinestones, most likely 2 out of the 3 will be on my body. In this look I have glitter on my heels and rhinestone drop earrings. Wearing a chunky green sweater keeps the look winter ready, the skirt adds some femininity, the leopard print gives it some personality and the bling says party!
Sporty Chic //
I love mixing styes together and in this case I did sporty, feminine and classic. I don’t wear button-downs often, nor do I wear skirts often but this outfit just came together that way. I would wear this outfit to volunteer at your kids school holiday party or to work on a casual dress down day.
This look is very me. I love adding a classic black leather jacket to any of my feminine outfits. It makes me feel more comfortable and more myself. Adding the brocade booties was a fun touch, the colors in the boots go with the colors in my dino shirt making them the perfect pairing. I wore this shirt with jeans in this post and I love how playful it makes any outfit.
Who would have a thought a leopard skirt could be worn in so many different styles. I didn’t until I started putting outfits together, along with these three I’m sharing I also wore this skirt to a baby shower! You know I am a fan of mixing high and low fashion price points and these outfits include a wide range of fashion brands. Below are are the details.
I’m so happy to be sharing my first ever One Piece, Three Ways blog post. I love wearing the same thing over and over and finding new ways to style it. These green pants were purchased in the fall and you can take them from the park to the office. The color of these pants are neutral and can be styled in endless ways. Check out my three options below!
A blazer and heels can take any outfit to the office. I love adding blazers to my outfits when I have board meetings or interviews.
Business Casual //
When I am asked for style tips people often ask how to wear a blazer in a causal setting. You can easily wear a blazer with jeans or sneakers to dress the look down. Where a blazer and sneaker with these green pants would be a perfect business casual outfit. Who’s ready for their next causal Friday outfit??
Pairing sneakers with a denim jacket is completely casual. This is how I would style these pants for the weekend, running errands or any activity with my boys.
These pants can be worn so many different ways which is why they were perfec to be featured in my first One Piece, Three Styles post. The pants are chino which seem casual to me so my first idea was to wear sneakers. Cold weather is upon us so I knew I needed a jacket This denim and shearling give all the warm feels without over heating, you know what I mean?!
Mixing prints can be an intimidating thought. One print that can go with just about everything is a leopard print. When you are trying to pair it with another print pretend the leopard print is neautral. The color of leopard print is neautral afterall so it’s easy to pair with with colored stripes, bold florals and a colorful graphic tee. You can even mix leopard print that is colored with other patterns but you will need to put a little more thought into it.
I love the way the green and brown in this outfit go together. With the idea of leopard being a neautral I wanted to add another color other than green. I chose navy blue, I don’t usually pair two colors together that are next to one another on the colorwheel but this outfit was an exception.
